Community invited to Silverdale town hall April 3 with County Commissioners to focus on housing solutions and a coordinated response to homelessness
A town hall in Silverdale from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 brings together Kitsap County Commissioners Katie Walters and Christine Rolfes, the Central Kitsap Community Council, members of the county's Homeless Encampment Action and Transitions (HEART) Team and staff from the Kitsap County Public Works Solid Waste Division for a forum on issues related to housing, homelessness and unauthorized encampments. A new pilot program aimed at stopping the proliferation of abandoned shopping carts will also be introduced.
The meeting takes place at the Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue Headquarters Station, 5300 NW Newberry Hill Road, Silverdale. There will be time for questions from the public and information sharing. Everyone is welcome, including those residing outside Central Kitsap. The meeting agenda is available at kcowa.us/CKCC.
The town hall discussion includes an overview of housing solutions and options, and a review of actions taken in 2023 to reduce the number of unauthorized homeless encampments in unincorporated areas of the county. HEART Team members will share how they lead with compassion to help those unhoused find shelter and services. A new program and partnership to eliminate abandoned shopping carts, especially throughout Silverdale, will be announced.
Residents, organizations and business owners are encouraged to attend this informative meeting and are welcome to ask questions, share concerns and learn about community-based solutions and resources.
Stay informed and engaged! All CKCC meetings are open to the public. Learn more about the council at kcowa.us/CKCC.
