John,
There has never been a bigger threat to our work than the radically dangerous Trump agenda. That is why last week, I proudly announced that EDF Action formally opposes Trump’s candidacy in this year’s presidential election.
Simply put, there is no Trump-proofing the climate. We will use all the available resources, which EDF Action members like you provide, to defeat the Trump agenda and its alarming assault on our environmental and climate progress.
Will you join me in this campaign to defend our cherished environmental protections? Please donate now to help mobilize and engage climate voters.
EDF Action is resolutely committed to building bipartisan coalitions to advance sensible and effective environmental policy — and we have a long track record of doing so.
In 2020 however, our board determined that the consequences of a second Trump term would be so catastrophic that we were left with no choice but to oppose his candidacy — the first time EDF Action had ever taken a side in a presidential race.
While we hoped that Trump would be a distant memory by now, our nation is not so fortunate. Make no mistake, Trump is worse on our core issues today than he was four years ago. Much worse.
Trump’s aversion to climate and environmental progress is spelled out in his Agenda47 campaign battle plan, which includes proposals to, among other things:
- “Be a dictator for one day… Because I want to drill, drill, drill.” Trump pledges to bypass federal drilling permits and leases to “unleash American oil and gas production” and “free up the vast stores of liquid gold on America’s public land.”
- Revive the Keystone XL Pipeline and restore leases Biden canceled for oil and gas exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, one of America’s last remaining pristine wildlife areas so vital for the survival of the caribou and other Arctic wildlife.
- Back out of the landmark Paris Climate Agreement… AGAIN. What is it about international cooperation to solve problems Trump is so scared of? The commitments in the Paris Agreement are not sufficient to solve the climate crisis on their own. But they represent an unprecedented agreement among nations to work together and verifiably cut climate pollution.
- Block the rights of communities to hold oil and gas companies accountable for the climate harm they are causing. Trump considers these actions “frivolous.” But a bedrock principle in American law is the right for people who are harmed to hold the perpetrators accountable in court. Without that fundamental right, what recourse do victims have? This is a dagger into the heart of American justice and the rule of law.
Plain and simple, we must unite against Trump’s Agenda47 and protect our climate and environmental progress. You and I and everyone who cares about our future must do what we can to win this fight in November and beyond.
Please donate now to protect our climate from Trump’s reckless agenda.
Making and defending progress requires all of us to stand together in this critical moment. The team and I are committed to moving forward to meet our climate goals and build a stronger, healthier and more prosperous America for everyone.
I hope you’ll stand with us today and through November.
With determination and appreciation,
David Kieve
