Friends,?

My House Republican colleagues and I were focused on solutions this week at the Capitol. The Education Policy Committee heard the final proposal to support schools, Republicans presented a plan to improve public safety, and the attack on religious liberty continues in our state.*? Please take a few minutes to check out this week?s video **here [ [link removed] ]!?*

?

*Education Policy Bill*?

The Education Policy Omnibus Bill just dropped this week and has been a primary focus for this week.? It?s a core tenant of mine to work for stronger schools and bring a boots-on-the-ground perspective.? This bill is filled with numerous technical fixes but continues to move away from local control and innovation.? There is a provision in the bill that would push public reporting for how schools and students are performing back to December from where it is now in September. This is eight months after the assessment is taken.? This information should be available as soon as possible so parents, teachers, and schools can work together to support students. Additionally, I would have liked to see the bill address truancy rates and other disciplinary issues. I will keep working across party lines to find reasonable solutions that foster the best learning environment possible for our kids. ?

There are items that will support schools in the bill.? For example, the paperwork reduction for special education teachers will allow teachers to spend more time in the classroom where they?re needed most. You can watch me discuss the truancy issue in committee this week here [ [link removed] ].?

?

*Religious liberty*?

Religious freedom is truly under attack in Minnesota. At a basic level, faith-based institutions, regardless of their denomination, could be facing legal challenges for adhering to their sincerely held religious beliefs. I believe, along with our founders, that this is completely unacceptable. We will continue fighting for religious liberty here at the Capitol ? it?s not just important for me and my faith, it?s important for everyone, regardless of how or if they worship.?

?

*Public Safety Press Conference*?

This week I was proud to support my Republican colleagues who spoke on their bills to improve public safety in Minnesota. These bills are a comprehensive plan to enhance community safety, in contrast to other proposals that may decrease it. Watch the full press conference here [ [link removed] ].? I was unable to attend the press conference because of a committee meeting.?
