Dear Friend –
The state House could vote this week on a bill to allow communities to increase energy efficiency, reduce harmful emissions, and lower overall energy bills through community solar.
Solar energy is one of our best tools to fight the climate crisis and lower energy bills. But not every family can afford solar panels, renters can’t install them, and not every roof is right for them. Community solar solves these challenges by allowing a solar company to place solar panels on places like parking garage roofs, warehouses, or brownfields and letting nearby residents subscribe to those community solar installations.
Ultimately, community solar provides customers with additional energy choices and saves residents money, which is especially important for low-income residents and people of color who typically pay a higher percentage of their salaries on utilities.
We’re calling on the House to pass this bill without adding any "poison pill" amendments that would degrade the bill’s effectiveness. Please join us in encouraging your lawmaker to vote for Community Solar in HB 1842! |
