Dear Friend,
Blessed Holy Week!
A couple weeks ago I announced that
I was going on a pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Guadalupe
in Mexico and want to give you an update. Sadly, but not unexpected,
the day we were to depart our beloved friend, Helena Aitchison, wife
of Catholic Action’s Executive Director, Jimmy Aitchison, experienced
her final crisis with end-stage cancer and passed away in the early
hours of Wednesday, March 13th. For that reason, the trip was
postponed.
Helena’s passing was a holy death
in every respect, above all because she was able to receive the full
Apostolic Blessing of the Church in the gift of the Last Sacraments.
She had received the sacrament of the sick numerous times in recent
months but just twelve hours before she gave up her soul, we summoned
a priest to her bedside and, while still conscious, she received the
sacrament of Extreme Unction and the Apostolic Blessing forgiving her
of all past sins.
My deputy and co-worker, Jimmy, was
heroic in balancing the demands of our mission with all the many
responsibilities of being the primary caregiver of his beloved wife in
her long decline.
In the near future I will
reschedule the pilgrimage and keep you informed as to the
details.
As we enter the holiest week of our
liturgical year, I ask your prayers for the repose of the soul of
Helena Aitchison, as well as Jimmy and his family, and I wish you a
most blessed and fruitful Holy Week for the glory of God and the
salvation of souls!
With you in the mission, I
remain.
Yours in Christ and Our
Lady,
Thomas McKenna
