John,
Every morning, I take public transportation to my job as an in-home care worker.
It's scary. I worry that I'll be exposed to coronavirus, and put my elderly client at risk -- along with my husband, and three young children.
But right now, staying home from work is not an option. My husband and I are undocumented, and have no health insurance or paid time off. We need this paycheck to support our family. So I put on a mask, put my fears aside, and hope for the best.
The Coronavirus Care Fund helps women like me, who are on the front lines of the pandemic, and navigating it without a safety net. And right now, we have an opportunity to support even more in-home care workers, nannies, and house cleaners during this hard time.
The generous people at the Stardust Fund have issued a challenge: if 350 people chip in before midnight tonight, they'll grant a special $100,000 donation to the Care Fund. Please, help unlock this desperately needed support by making a special donation to the Care Fund right now. Your gift will provide immediate financial assistance to all of us who need help right now, so we can take time off during this crisis and stay healthy and safe.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.
I like my job. Taking care of elderly people makes me feel good, and reminds me of my own parents, who I had to leave behind to seek a better life for my family in the U.S. But right now, I shouldn't be traveling into work every day. It's more important to keep my distance, and help slow the spread of coronavirus.
The Care Fund helps me and others like me do just that -- thanks to the generosity of individuals like you, who know that we'll only get through this by coming together and taking care of one another.
Unfortunately, my story is all too common.
Domestic workers like me are especially vulnerable to the threat of coronavirus -- especially those without status. Many are paid under-the-table, giving us no protections if our clients suddenly cancel appointments or let us go altogether.
At this time of crisis, we need to take care of the people who take care of us. So I urge you: Please donate to the Coronavirus Care Fund right now, and be one of the 350 donors we need to unlock an extra $100,000 for those in need. Your gift will help care workers like me stay home, stay healthy, and slow the spread of coronavirus.
Thank you so much for your generosity.
Sincerely,
Lydia N.
