I have some important news to share: I’m excited to announce that I’m endorsing Laura Friedman as my successor in California’s 30th District.

Before I made the decision to run for Senate, I wanted to make sure that the constituents I had represented for more than twenty years would be well served by whoever might follow me.

I wanted to know that my replacement would be someone with both the experience and commitment to our shared values, and who would go to Washington to really get things done.

I’m proud to say that we have that person: Laura Friedman. I’m even prouder to announce my endorsement of her campaign to succeed me in CA-30.

I have known and worked with Laura for many years, and know her to be someone with incredible knowledge, talent and experience. She understands our community well and fights for it every day.

I knew that whoever ended up being our nominee would come to Congress at a very challenging time in our history. There’s so much work to be done -- to protect democracy, strengthen our economy, defend reproductive rights, combat climate change and more.

The good news is that Laura has been an exceptional, progressive legislator in the State Assembly. She has a proven track record of authoring and passing bills that benefit our community -- often despite tough odds. I know we can all count on her to continue her good work tackling the real challenges facing California and the country.
