John,
It’s times like these that I become especially angry about our broken campaign finance system. In a national health crisis, when I’m working around the clock from home to help ensure the safety and financial stability of my constituents, I still need to think about fundraising.
Despite the unprecedented crisis facing our nation, we will have an election in November. Republican Super PACs, Donald Trump, and corporate special interests will spend millions of dollars to defeat me. If we don’t fight back and raise the money we need, even during this trying time for our nation, we won’t have the resources to win.
Our nation will weather this storm. We will persevere through this crisis and as we do, this pandemic will show us why government leadership matters. I am proud to have fought—and won—in Congress on behalf of regular Americans.
I’m calling out big corporations and polluters who are trying to use this crisis to evade regulations that protect us. I’m standing up to Trump administration officials trying to renege on their public duty to deliver help to American families so they can focus on the priorities of lobbyists for big corporations. I’m making dozens of calls each day to healthcare workers, small business owners, teachers, and seniors to hear their stories—and then working to address their concerns.
This is a challenging and disconcerting time for all Americans. But please know that my focus on putting people first, ahead of special interests, has not wavered.
Thank you for staying in this fight with me. Your support means so much.
Very truly yours,
-- Katie Porter
