My name is Dr. Bre Peeler. As the newest board member of Teachers Unify to End Gun Violence, I’ll admit: I’m going to ask you to make a donation toward our work. But before I do, let me share why I’m here, and why being part of this movement felt so urgent to me.

For me, joining this board was a response to how profound the danger of gun violence in schools has grown. As an educator and former school administrator, I’ve seen firsthand the impact of gun violence in schools.

In what should be a nurturing environment, I’ve felt that constant fear and insecurity. I’ve seen it hinder learning for both students and teachers, seen the toll it takes on their mental well-being. And I’ve had enough.

But I’ve also come to recognize that the passion and dedication that teachers exhibit in the classroom extend naturally to advocating for safer schools. Teachers Unify is the clear answer to a growing problem.

Together, as educators leading the charge, we can work towards implementing effective strategies that will ensure our schools become havens of learning, free from the threat of gun violence. But we need you with us, too.
