Dear Friend,

I’m just going to cut straight to the chase: We need you to tell the
courts to protect access to abortion and take all necessary steps to
ensure our reproductive rights are secure.

It is time to act now because tomorrow the Supreme Court of the United
States will be considering a case that could threaten access to
Mifepristone, the drug that is commonly used in medication abortion. At
this very moment in history, medication abortion is one of the only
available ways to access abortion. The Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v.
U.S. Food and Drug Administration or ‘AMH v FDA’ case challenges the FDA’s
23-year-old approval of mifepristone, a medication safer to use than
aspirin. The consequences of this ruling are dire, potentially leading to
a nationwide ban on mifepristone. Such a ban would not only limit access
to abortion but also healthcare for millions of people, including those
facing miscarriages or life-threatening pregnancies.

Clarity moment… This fight isn’t just about protecting abortion. It’s
about safeguarding the health and autonomy of marginalized communities who
are already disproportionately affected by systemic racism and barriers to
healthcare. People of color, immigrants, those living in poverty, rural
communities, LGBTQ+ people, and people who are already mothers and parents
are among those who stand to suffer the most if mifepristone becomes
unavailable. This is about protecting communities and those who are most
likely to self-manage their own abortions from arrests, surveillance, and
criminalization. Furthermore, this case threatens access to other
FDA-approved medications, including birth control.

The courts have never revoked a science-backed decision made by the FDA.
Ever. Which means our democracy is at risk. Our rights are at risk. Our
lives are at risk. Filing an amicus brief is our opportunity to make our
voices heard and help the courts understand the far-reaching consequences
of their decision.

If ultimately won, this case could result in a devastating nationwide ban
on mifepristone— even in states where abortion is protected. We need our
state leaders—including governors, justices, and elected officials across
the country—to fully show up for people and communities fighting for
racial, economic, and reproductive justice. We need those who have sworn
to protect us to show their commitment to protecting our rights, and
acknowledge that abortion-specific restrictions are a tool of gender
oppression that specifically target healthcare services that are used
primarily by women, mothers, and parents. Everyone must step up right now
because reproductive justice cannot wait.

mifepristone!
