Dear John,

Cumbria Safari Zoo - also known as South Lakes Zoo - has been on our radar for many years. Ever since it was dubbed 'Britain's Worst Zoo' in the press, we have campaigned for its closure, and continued to investigate to try and shed light on the grim reality for the animals there.

But we knew we needed to do more to expose the truth, and gain access to areas the public are not allowed to go....

So we took action, and deployed an undercover investigator to enter the zoo as a volunteer to gather evidence and uncover what really happens within its walls.

Episode one of our groundbreaking expose into Cumbria Safari Zoo

This is the first of a series of videos documenting what we uncovered at Cumbria Safari Zoo.

In the run up to Zoo Awareness Weekend - our annual event dedicated to sharing the truth about zoos and how they exploit animals - we will be dropping ONE video A DAY, to share the shocking evidence we gathered during this groundbreaking investigation with you, our valued supporter.

The investigation spanned over 11 months, and uncovered a disturbing reality of animal injury, illness and death; overcrowding; negligent animal welfare practices; poor infrastructure; and inadequate veterinary care.

Throughout this video series, you will hear of Mona and Zippy, two elderly Andean bears who bang on their cage doors every day out of boredom and frustration. And of Bruce the lemur, who is repeatedly bullied by other lemurs at the zoo, so much so that he is too scared to come indoors and often hides outside, even in winter when he risks freezing to death.

We now need your help to share the reality for these animals held captive at this zoo. So please, head to our social media accounts each day and SHARE each video as they drop daily!

A number of kangaroos have been previously treated for a bacterial disease known as 'lumpy jaw' at Cumbria Safari Zoo. The disease is the biggest killer of kangaroos and wallabies in captivity.

The disgraceful evidence of neglect found at Cumbria Safari Zoo over the years is so vast, yet somehow they have been allowed to remain open to visitors, and continued to make profit off the backs of the animals there. This is unacceptable.

This devastating investigation has shown that nothing has changed for the animals trapped in this zoo. We must continue the call for Westmorland and Furness Council to finally close down this horrendous zoo, and shout our demands even louder than before. Enough is enough.

Help Bruce, Mona, Zippy, and all the animals imprisoned in Cumbria Safari Zoo against their will, by sharing this video far and wide ([link removed]) , and supporting the petition today! ([link removed])
HELP KEEP OUR INVESTIGATORS IN THE FIELD ([link removed])

These investigations are vital in the fight for animal freedom, and it is only thanks YOU that we are able to carry them out and shine a light on this terrible exploitation.

Without your generous support, we would not be able to do the work that we do - so please know how grateful we are for your continued support and kindness. Your donations help to keep our investigators out doing what they do best - finding evidence of the cruelty that so many animals go through in zoos. Thank you, from us and from the animals.

Please share these videos widely, along with the petition, and I will keep you updated on this important campaign!
