Trump rages into dark of midnight against his building seizures as deadline day hits
The disgraced ex-president raged at the possible seizures of his properties in a signature, thumb-smashed social media rant posted after midnight as the deadline to post his fraud appeal bond hit — and hours before he was due in court for his felony criminal trial for illegal hush-money payments to an adult film star with whom he had an affair. There has been a lot of wild speculation about how — or if — Trump will make the $454 MILLION bond payment. The deadline, if the appeals court doesn’t intervene, is today. New York Attorney General Letitia James has made it clear that property seizures are in play if the serial fraudster fails to pay. Buckle up, folks! It's gonna be a bumpy week.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Top Republican signals openness to leaving the GOP
GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski seemed to signal an openness to leaving her party affiliation behind and possibly switch to an independent. The implications of such a move would be monumental, given the current 51-49 split in the upper chamber. When asked about officially becoming an independent, Murkowski said, "I just regret that our party is seemingly becoming a party of Donald Trump. I am navigating my way through some very interesting political times, let's just leave it at that."

Chuck Todd skewers NBC News for hiring former RNC Chair and Big Lie enthusiast Ronna McDaniel
NBC News Chief Political Analyst Chuck Todd slammed his own network over its decision to hire former Republican National Committee chair and gaslighting aficionado Ronna McDaniel as he made a surprise appearance on Sunday’s episode of "Meet the Press," the show he hosted for nine years before handing over the reins to current host Kristen Welker in 2023. "I think our bosses owe you an apology for putting you in this situation," he told Welker, who said her show booked McDaniel weeks before NBC announced she was coming on board as a paid contributor. After praising Welker for "exposing" McDaniel’s "contradictions" during their interview, Todd continued, "There’s a reason why there are a lot of journalists at NBC News uncomfortable with this, because many of our professional dealings with the RNC over the last six years have been met with gaslighting, have been met with character assassination." It's a sad day for journalism. The normalization of conspiratorial rhetoric and rehabilitative nature of mainstream media outlets bringing proven liars and propagandists into so-called serious conversation spaces does not bode well for the future of fact-telling. Lying on behalf of a cult leader for six years should NOT be rewarded with a handsome contract at a top-flight news network. On the contrary, such behavior should result in some sort of media exile.

Russia tells US to "think again" over Islamic State role in concert hall attack, despite evidence
Russia has cast doubt on assertions by the US and other western nations that the Islamic State militant group was responsible for the terrorist attack on the Crocus City concert hall outside Moscow which killed at least 137 people and injured 182 others. On Sunday, Islamic State released new footage of Friday’s deadly attack, corroborating the terror group’s claim to have masterminded the massacre, even as Russia sought to place the blame on Ukraine, which Kyiv denies.

James Carville blames Democrats' polling woes on "too many preachy females"
79-year-old Democratic political pundit James Carville sat down with The New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd and mansplained what's obviously ailing the Democratic Party these days — "too many preachy females." Carville, with metaphorical shovel in hand, continued, "If you listen to Democratic elites — NPR is my go-to place for that — the whole talk is about how women, and women of color, are going to decide this election," he said at one point. "I’m like: 'Well, 48 percent of the people that vote are males. Do you mind if they have some consideration?'" Psst, James — your fragility is showing. Also, 1992 called. It wants its hot take back.

Marco Rubio squirms over vicious Trump video clips in tense ABC News interview
ABC News' Jonathan Karl took the Florida Republican on a "quick trip down memory lane" with his past comments about the serially indicted ex-president, including one particularly biting clip where Rubio called Donald Trump a "con artist" who spent his life sticking it to the "little guy" before famously proclaiming, "Friends do not let friends vote for con artists." Rubio — apparently somehow now on Trump's 2024 VP short list — offered up a pathetic defense and dismissed the barb altogether, blithely stating, "It was a campaign." The number of Republicans who rightly criticized Donald Trump during his unthinkable rise nine years ago and then promptly fell in line to enable his worst instincts is appalling, if not unsurprising. We'd say the GOP has lost its way, but that suggests they had some sort of moral compass to begin with.

VP Harris says Biden administration doesn't want to ban TikTok despite backing bill that would force sale
Vice President Kamala Harris vowed that the Biden administration does "not intend to ban TikTok," though President Biden has said he would sign legislation that could potentially lead to that result. It sounds confusing because it is confusing. The House approved a bill earlier this month that would force TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to sell the juggernaut social media app or face a practical ban in the US. Biden said he would sign the legislation if the bill makes it to his desk, though it’s facing delays in the Senate. "We do not intend to ban TikTok. That is not at all the goal or the purpose of this conversation. We need to deal with the owner, and we have national security concerns about the owner of TikTok, but we have no intention to ban TikTok," Harris told ABC’s "This Week."
Black House Democrats line up behind Angela Alsobrooks in Maryland Senate race after primary opponent's racial slur fiasco
Five Black House Democrats are endorsing Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks in her Maryland Senate bid, days after her primary opponent — House Rep. David Trone — apologized for using a racial slur in a House hearing. Trone apologized on Friday, saying he meant to use the word "bugaboo" during a House budget committee hearing. "I recognise that as a white man, I have privilege. And as an elected official, I have a responsibility for the words I use — especially in the heat of the moment. Regardless of what I meant to say, I shouldn't have used that language." Alsobrooks and Trone are vying for the Democratic nomination to run against former Republican Gov. Larry Hogan, who is currently leading both Democrats in most polls.
