Outright International Monthly Newsletter

March, Women's History Month, is a time for us to celebrate and advocate for ALL the women still fighting to be recognized. They are lesbian women, bisexual women, trans women, intersex women, and queer women that are part of our communities across the globe who are creating change. That is why, for the third year in a row, we launched another call for 100 activists to be part of theLBQ Connect ([link removed]) program on International Women's Day. We also brought 12 activists from around the world to be present at the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) ([link removed]) in New York to bring diverse and inclusive voices to the United Nations spaces. Additionally, we are advocating for gender-focused philanthropy to be inclusive and expansive.

Apply To Be Part of LBQ Connect ([link removed])

On International Women's Day, we launched the third cycle of our LBQ Connect program, and we are looking for 100 LBQ activists from all over the world! Apply (English ([link removed]) , French ([link removed]) , Spanish ([link removed]) ) before April 8, 2024, at midnight EST.

LBQ Connect ([link removed]) is a dynamic global feminist program dedicated to empowering lesbian, bisexual, and queer women*, fostering activism, and amplifying the impact of LBQ voices worldwide. This program aims to strengthen the capabilities of LBQ activists, provide support to existing and emerging groups, collect essential data, and elevate the visibility of LBQ issues and leaders. As the challenges faced by LBQ individuals are diverse, LBQ Connect employs a multifaceted approach to fortify the LBQ movement. In the last two years, the program has supported 200 LBQ activists with learning and mentorship activities, grants, participation in international conferences, and networking opportunities.

* In the framework of the program, “LBQ women” focuses on sexual identity and is inclusive of lesbian, bisexual, and queer women, including cisgender, trans, intersex, and non-binary people on the gender spectrum who relate to a lesbian, bisexual, and/or queer identity.

Why are diverse voices on gender equality important at the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)?

For this year’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), Outright International brought 12 activists from 10 countries, including Argentina, Guyana, Kenya, Mauritius, and Thailand, to New York to share their diverse expertise within the United Nations CSW68 space. Our team and cohort of activists spoke on panels on the theme of CSW 68 - poverty alleviation - and the upcoming Summit of the Future to promote the importance of gender-inclusive approaches to achieve gender equality for all women and girls. They also attended bilateral meetings with 5 UN agencies, 12 UN member state delegations, and many other stakeholders throughout the CSW68 period.

South Africa's Intersex Rights at a Crossroads ([link removed])

Why Gender-Focused Philanthropy Must Be Inclusive & Expansive ([link removed])

Outright's Director of Leadership Giving Katie Hultquist's new commentary focuses on why gender-focused philanthropy must be inclusive and expansive in this commentary ([link removed]) . In this piece, Katie shares examples and viewpoints that all lead to a conclusion that strong, vibrant, and well-funded organizing by LBTIQ women is essential to advance human rights for all LGBTIQ people and to improve the lives of all women and gender non-conforming people. Women's rights are LGBTIQ rights - and vice versa - and they are all human rights. Our lives and our rights are intertwined, and our activism and philanthropy must be, too.
Celebration of Courage: June 3, 2024 ([link removed])
