John,
For too long, loopholes and lax enforcement have allowed the super-rich to avoid contributing their fair share, while working families struggle to get by. President Biden's proposed budget for fiscal year 2025 takes bold steps to promote economic justice and make our tax system more equitable.
The President's plan would raise corporate tax rates and close egregious loopholes that let the wealthiest individuals shelter their income. It would also restore full funding to the IRS so they can go after wealthy tax cheats who have avoided paying billions in taxes.
Unsurprisingly, Republican extremists are already opposing these common-sense reforms because their wealthy donors want to preserve a rigged system that benefits them. But in an election year, they can't ignore the will of their constituents.
With voters overwhelmingly in support of making corporations and the rich pay more in taxes, each one of us must stand up and tell Congress to support the President’s budget now!
Another key provision of Biden’s budget is increasing the tax on corporate stock buybacks. For years, corporations have funneled their massive profits into purchasing their own stock, enriching executives and shareholders while neglecting to invest in their workers, raise wages, or boost productivity.
The budget also takes the important step of eliminating tax breaks and subsidies for fossil fuel companies. Taxpayers cannot pad the profits of Big Oil while our planet faces a climate crisis.
Each part of President Biden’s plan will help fight against rising inequality, remove burdens on average taxpayers, and finally give the government needed revenue for important public investments.
The bottom line is that corporations and the wealthy have exploited our tax system for too long. President Biden's budget would take major strides toward fairness and economic justice. But it won't happen without a groundswell of public support.
Let's all do our part to demand Congress pass this budget and make the super-rich finally pay their fair share.
Thank you for standing up to special interests and doing what's right for working families and our economy.
