Friend:
First: Texas legislators passed SB4, a law that would give Texas police the authority to arrest people who they simply suspect of crossing the border while undocumented, subjecting them to jail time or even deportation. This has major implications for Texans across the state and is expected to open up Black and brown people, including immigrants,to racial profiling, harassment, and violence.
Then: Facing community pressure, the Biden administration sued Texas, leading federal courts to temporarily block the unconstitutional law from going into effect. Since then, it has made its way up to the Supreme Court — where it was paused, then allowed to go into effect, and then paused again by a lower court.
Now: We’re still waiting to find out the fate of SB4. The most recent pause has bought us more time to continue fighting against this racist, dangerous, unconstitutional law before it’s put into action.
This is a critical moment for the future of immigration policy and justice in the United States. Together, we must unapologetically reject these hate-filled policies from becoming law in our communities and make it clear that we are making strides to build a future where we welcome immigrants with dignity, humanity, and care.
Immigrant youth and our allies have the power to create the future we want to see, through advocacy, organizing, and applying political pressure. But mobilizing takes resources — and that’s where we need you, team.
