An update from the office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino
Securing Our Border And Strengthening Our National Defense
This week, Andrew voted to strengthen our border security and our national security by providing our troops with the largest increase in basic pay in over two decades and our military with much needed investments in next-generation fighter aircraft, helicopters, tactical combat vehicles, and submarines. The legislation also included the highest level of funding ever for Border Patrol Agents and funding for more ICE detention beds and border security technology to help mitigate the crisis caused by the Biden Administration’s failed policies. Andrew will always fight for a safe and secure America in the face of rising threats from our adversaries.
"
Congress is responsible for passing annual appropriations to ensure that essential federal government programs remain funded, our national defense remains strong, and our country is able to continue to grow and thrive. This has often come in the form of lengthy pieces of legislation, with top-line spending numbers decided on by the leadership of the majority party, leading to massive spending bills that increased the national deficit. When Republicans won the majority in the House, we made a commitment to do things differently. Instead of a top-down approach, we vowed to responsibly fund the government and ensure that members of the House, and by extension the American people, have a say in what goes into funding packages. We have fulfilled that promise by ensuring that appropriations bills were thoroughly debated and passed by relevant committees, rather than dictated by leadership, before being put on the floor for a vote. That’s why I was proud to have cast my vote in favor of the Consolidated Appropriations Act...This critical government funding package cuts wasteful spending and is estimated to save taxpayers $200 billion over the next 10 years, while funding critical domestic priorities — making this the first overall cut to non-defense, non-Veterans Affairs spending in almost a decade. It includes robust funding for local law enforcement, expands efforts to combat the fentanyl crisis, and prohibits the Department of Justice from targeting Americans based on their religion or political ideology. It bolsters our military, expands housing for service members, and funds health care for our veterans.

CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Helping Constituent Secure Retirement
A constuent contacted Andrew's office for help receiving the retirement she was due. She had left her job at the Post Office and IRS after 20 years of service in 2015, but had to wait to collect retirement until she turned 60 this year. She apply for a deferred retirement through the federal Office of Personell Management (OPM) in time so it would be processed by her 60th birthday. However, OPM was completely unresponsive. Andrew's casework team reached out to OPM and ensured she received a retroactive payment of what she was owed and her monthly recurring annuity payment.
Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case.

Long Island has among the highest occurrences of breast cancer in the country. Through medical research and early detection, we can fight back against this horrible disease. Andrew is proud to have led the appropriations letter that secured this funding and will continue to fight on behalf of the warriors battling Breast Cancer in New York and across the country.

Andrew Fights To Restore American Energy Dominance
It was Energy Week on Capitol Hill this week with the House of Representatives taking up a series of bills designed to unleash American energy and counteract the Biden Administration's anti-American energy policies. Producing more energy here at home would lower costs for families. Since day one in office, President Biden has sought to suppress domestic energy production resulting in record gas prices at the pump, exorbitant home heating costs, and increasing our reliance on foreign nations for energy. Andrew and House Republicans know that America produces the cleanest energy in the world and that energy security is national security.
