John,
Over the weekend, my administration made the difficult decision to issue a temporary Stay Home order. According to the New York Times, roughly three out of every four people now fall under similar Stay Home orders, including the people of Kansas. This decision did not come easily, but I firmly believe taking these actions now will help further prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our state.
In effect through April 19th, Kansas' Stay Home order includes the following guidelines about when you can leave your residence that everyone must follow if we're going to successfully combat COVID-19:
* You are going to work to perform an essential function;
* You are obtaining food, medicine, or other household necessities;
* You are seeking medical care;
* You are caring for children, pets, family members, or a vulnerable person in another location.
Most importantly, I want you to know: you can still go outside for fresh air and exercise as long as you continue to follow safe social distancing from others.
I truly wish this order was not necessary, but we are taking this action to ensure Kansas does not face the same hardships as states like New York and Missouri. If we all do our part to abide by the guidelines in the Stay Home order, I know we will limit further spread of this disease, together.
My job as governor is to keep Kansans safe and ensure the state deploys every tool at its disposal to adapt and align response efforts with emerging best practices. Your job, as a Kansan who loves your family, your neighbors, your state, and your country, is to take our instructions seriously.
If you have any questions regarding the order and what it means for you and your community, please visit the Kansas Essential Functions Framework website for more information. >> [link removed]

Laura
