It's Colin Allred. I'm honored to be the official Democratic nominee to run against and defeat Ted Cruz. But this race is heating up like never before: New polling shows this race in a dead heat.

We can flip Texas blue this year. But I won't beat around the bush: The GOP is ready to spend whatever it takes to stop us. They know that this race could determine Senate control – and they won't be pulling any punches.

I'll only be able to pull ahead in the polls and defeat Ted Cruz if grassroots supporters stand with me. That's why my friend Gary Peters recommended I reach out to you.

Listen, I'm used to being the underdog – and I'm not afraid of a tough fight. I was raised by a single mother, who was a public school teacher. My mom worked tirelessly to support my family and give us a chance to succeed, even picking up another job to make ends meet. She raised me to take on any challenge head on and always fight for what I believe in.

That's what inspired me to run for Congress in 2018, even when all the odds were stacked against me. Just 48 days before the election, the polls only gave me a ~13% chance of winning. I knew that turning things around would be almost impossible. But giving up was never an option. So I put my head down and got to work.

I spent those next 48 days hitting the campaign trail, meeting voters and working hard to rally the grassroots support we needed. When the polls closed, we had done the almost impossible: We flipped the district of an 11-term Republican incumbent to help take back the House in 2018.

This time around, it's a similar story. I've spent these past few months traveling to every corner of Texas, meeting every voter that I can, and building a winning grassroots campaign. The polls show that our work is paying off. But running this type of voter outreach campaign is expensive – and Ted Cruz's megadonors are ready to blanket the airwaves with attack ads to turn the tides against me.

I'm counting on strong grassroots support from folks like you to keep on building connections with voters and fighting back against Ted Cruz's attacks.
