BREAKING: This is unconscionable

The Trump administration is exploiting this crisis to finalize a profoundly damaging attack on our health & wallets.

As a country, we’re worried about the health & safety of our friends and loved ones. We’re focused on making sure that our communities can weather the seemingly unavoidable economic downturn - and coming out of this in a healthier, safer world.

These are the priorities of the public – and they should be the priorities of our government.

But while we’re focused on one of the biggest crises our country has ever faced, the Trump administration is exploiting this moment to finalize its profoundly damaging rollback of our nation’s Clean Car Standards – a decision that won’t just create more pollution and boost our dependence on foreign oil, but will cause thousands of premature deaths, cost Americans hundreds of billions of dollars, and eliminate at least tens of thousands of jobs.

But we don’t have to stand for it. Take action today, and demand Congress reverse this assault on our health and safety – and our wallets.

These standards have a wide range of support – 2 out of 3 Americans support them. A bipartisan coalition of 24 governors has called on the administration not to finalize this attack. And Ford, Honda, BMW, and Volkswagen all joined California to help ensure continued pollution reductions from their vehicles.

And it’s easy to see why. We’ve just finished a new analysis that examines the serious and lasting pollution, energy, economic, and security implications of this decision – carried out with EPA’s own modeling.

And we found the Trump administration’s attack on these protections will mean:

An additional 1.5 billion metric tons of climate pollution over the next decade – about the same amount of pollution generated by 68 coal plants operating for five years;

Over the lifetime of these cars: 18,500 premature deaths. 250,000 more asthma attacks. 350,000 more other respiratory ailments. And one million lost work days from health issues.

Plus $190 billion in costs to our economy because of those health harms. But that’s not all. In the next 10 years, Americans will pay $244 billion more at the gas pump.

And the Trump administration’s own analysis showed its proposal to weaken Clean Car Standards would cost 60,000 American jobs. Independent analysis by Blue Green Alliance painted an even worse picture – the loss of 200,000 jobs.

Right now, Americans deserve better. Demand it of Congress – tell them to stand against this dangerous attack on our protections and our economy.
