When Ju’s on the dancefloor, he can be himself-- hear more of his story

Friend -- we’d like to introduce you to Ju:

Born in South Korea, Ju and his mom moved to Oakland, California when he was 11 years old. After receiving his DACA as an adult, he was able to visit South Korea to reunite with his elders, where he discovered that home is where his family and friends are: in the United States. But growing up undocumented hasn’t been easy. When faced with uncertainty, Ju takes to the dance floor with his friends to tap into their resilience and joy.

Watch this video of Ju as he dances and shares his story of finding home in Oakland:

Ju is one of the 27 DACA recipients who joined United We Dream last November to fearlessly share their stories with the Supreme Court to tell them to stop Trump from killing DACA.

Now, immigrant youth await the Supreme Court’s decision on DACA which can happen at any time from now through June, even amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic! If the decision is negative, thousands of people like Ju would be torn away from their homes and deported.

Already, DACA recipients and all undocumented people are left out of the federal support programs for COVID-19 and are vulnerable to the pandemic and raids. That’s why we’re urging the Supreme Court to delay their decision on DACA.

Help spread the word that our #HomeIsHere and demand that SCOTUS postpone their decision by sharing Ju’s story with friends and family:

Ju grew up in a single-parent household and for a long time, felt ashamed of being undocumented. Through his love for dance, however, he was able to strengthen his friendships and feel a sense of belonging and freedom that allowed him to thrive.

Ju embodies hope and reminds us that no matter the Supreme Court’s decision on DACA, immigrant youth will continue to heal, fight and persevere.

Let’s work together to ensure that everyone in our communities is protected and thrives. Our #HomeIsHere.

In community,

Mari and the rest of the UWD team

P.S. We know times are hard Friend, that is why Jenny from our UndocuHealth team will be having a webinar for our undocumented community this Thursday, April 2nd from 4:00 - 5:00 PM ET. Share this online to make sure everyone who needs to, joins us!
