Hi John,
As a 20-year-old college graduate, I received my first healthcare from a Planned Parenthood clinic in New York.
As a 25-year-old, I was able to get an abortion when I needed one because of Roe v. Wade.
I was a board member at Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette when we became the first Planned Parenthood in the country to offer medication-assisted abortion.
Today, Roe v. Wade has been overturned. Next week, the Supreme Court will decide whether to roll back the right to get a medication-assisted abortion. But they will not stop there.
Abortion rights are under their worst threat in decades because extreme, cruel Republicans, led by Donald Trump, are hell-bent on enacting a national abortion ban. They don’t care that abortion, birth control, and evidence-based sex education save lives – they just want to control women under the guise of being “pro-life.”
Politicians shouldn’t have anything to do with such a deeply personal decision. Every person should have the fundamental freedom to make their own decision about their own body and their healthcare.
This issue is deeply personal for me. I’ve spoken publicly about my own abortion, and I know just how important it is for abortion access to be protected and expanded. Roe v. Wade should be the floor, not the ceiling.
And I know what it takes to fight back against the extremists with everything I’ve got – and in Congress, I’ll do just that.
I believe that when we stand together, we will prevail.
If you’re with me, it’d mean the world if you could chip in a grassroots donation to help me get there. We have an upcoming FEC deadline at the end of this month, and every bit helps.
Gratefully,
Susheela
