A recent report by the Brennan Center for Justice revealed that the racial voting gap is widening.

Sadly, this comes as no surprise.

For generations, people of color have faced obstacles and oppressions that block or deter them from voting. Just over ten years ago, the Supreme Court case Shelby v. Holder brought this to a head, gutting hard-fought protections in the original Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Shelby v. Holder originated in Alabama, one of Groundwork’s target states, and it's in states like Alabama where people of color continue to be targeted the most harshly.

As Republicans continue to use modern-day Jim Crow policies to suppress and dilute the voting power of communities of color, we must fight back.
