Friend, fourteen years ago today, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law.
This legislation, which I fought for alongside my Democratic colleagues, has been transformative for millions of families.
This law made it illegal for insurance companies to deny care based on pre-existing conditions, it's expanded coverage to nearly 40 million Americans , and it's improved the quality of healthcare coverage for everyone.
And despite more than a decade of Republican attacks on the ACA, we've continued to defend and build on the law. We capped the cost of insulin at $35 a month for seniors and allowed Medicare to negotiate lower prices for lifesaving prescription drugs . I've led the charge in Congress to fight the opioid epidemic and deliver more funds and treatment programs to our communities that need them most.
There's still more work to be done, friend. Protecting and expanding affordable healthcare is one of my top priorities in Congress, and I won't stop until every person in this country can get the world-class care they deserve.
