Before I launched my campaign last fall, I sat down with my team and talked through what my campaign slogan would be. You’ve probably seen it in my emails since – we decided to create one that aligned most with my vision for the First State:

“Making Delaware the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”

Today, I want to focus on that last part. As a mom and a nurse who has spent years taking care of new mothers in the perinatal unit, I can’t emphasize enough my commitment to Delaware’s families. And a huge part of empowering our newest families is ensuring the accessibility of baby formula.

Earlier this month, I met with community partners at Harper’s Heart Closet of Love (at the Wilmington Public Library) to discuss our efforts to make baby formula accessible to all.

No parent should ever have to wonder how they are going to feed their babies – or dilute what little baby formula they can afford in order to make ends meet.

I’m so proud to let you all know that we have successfully made over 15,000 canisters of baby formula available for pickup! Each canister contains 20-24 bottles’ worth of formula – that’s a whole lot of nutrients for our youngest Delawareans.

Affordability should never be a barrier to ensuring infants are properly nourished, especially during such a crucial point in their life for health and development. Accomplishments like these are the ones I’m proudest of: when I know that Delawareans’ lives are improved through public service and community partners’ collaboration.

As Delaware’s next Governor, I’ll keep working to make our state the best one to live, work, and raise a family – because Delawareans deserve only the most experienced and dedicated public servants.
