Dear Friend,
14 years ago, President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law – extending quality, affordable health care coverage to millions of Americans with the stroke of a pen. In the years since, this historic legislation has decreased income inequality, protected people with pre-existing conditions from discrimination, increased access to preventative care like cancer screenings and vaccinations, and saved lives.
Health care is a fundamental right, and I’m working every day to strengthen the ACA, lower health care costs, and build a future where no one has to choose between visiting the doctor, paying the bills, or putting food on the table.
I was proud to help pass the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which is delivering health care savings for seniors on Medicare with insulin capped at $35 a month, free vaccines, and out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs capped at $2,000 starting in 2025. For the first time in U.S. history, the IRA empowers Medicare to negotiate with big pharmaceutical companies to lower drug prices. It also extended subsidies for those who buy their own health coverage on the ACA Marketplace. Thanks to the IRA, four out of five Americans can find health care plans on HealthCare.gov for $10 or less a month.
I’m also working to improve mental health coverage with my Parity Enforcement Act, which would hold insurance companies accountable to cover mental health care the same way they cover physical health care.
In 2023, a record 21 million Americans signed up for affordable health care coverage through the ACA Marketplace, including more than 370,000 New Jerseyans. As extreme MAGA Republicans plot to slash Medicaid and Medicare funding and weaken protections for people with pre-existing conditions, it has never been more important to protect the ACA.
I will always fight to lower costs for families and ensure that everyone in South Jersey can get the care they need.
