Earlier this year, Louisiana legislators voted to stop the state's open primaries that have been in place for more than 50 years, replacing it with a closed primary system. Only 15% of voters are in support of the change <[link removed]>, while more than 60% actively want to keep their open primary options.
In Connecticut, a state law was passed decades ago to allow for open primaries so that the state's independent voters could practice their constitutional right to vote. Unfortunately, the state left it to the legacy parties to implement this change and, of course, neither party has decided to allow independents to vote <[link removed]>.
It seems increasingly that both legacy parties would rather shut voters out than change their policies to address issues that Americans care about. There is nothing more central to our democracy than our right to vote, and we here at Forward believe Americans deserve a Party that works to earn their votes rather than shutting out anyone who won't support their increasingly narrow vision for this country.
So please spread the word—Forward is the party where the voice of the voter matters.
