Queer people have rocked American Idol for years. There was the gay janitor who stunned the judges with a song about acceptance in 2019 and trans teen Ace Stile's heartbreaking try-out from 2021, among others.
While David Archuletta was closeted when he came in second on the show's seventh season in 2008, he's out-and-proud now - and was a featured performer at this year's Queerties. He presented former judge Paula Abdul with the Straight Up Ally award.
