John, The end of March is here, and what that typically means is the end-of-month and end-of-quarter fundraising push. However, these are not typical times, and what we're trying to do is adapt -- just like most people are right now. Our campaign's first priority is getting information and resources out to folks to help them get through these difficult times. Last week, over 3 million people filed for unemployment, and that number will continue to rise. With so many of our neighbors going through such unprecedented hardship, we're asking folks: If you have a dollar or two, give them to a local nonprofit, give them to a local business or restaurant. I have a friend who's a hairdresser, and she doesn't know what she's going to do for income these next few months. Those are the people who we need to help right now. If you have an extra dollar or two after that, we'll take it -- because we have an election to win in November and need the resources to compete. We don't take a dime of corporate PAC money, so we rely on our people-powered, grassroots movement to keep going. We're powered by people like you. If you could chip in before our end-of-quarter deadline at midnight tonight, I'd be very grateful. And so again, there's so many great local opportunities out there. Nonprofits and different groups in the community are coming together, and that's fantastic. We need to support them and continue to grow these efforts. And so with that, I just want to say thank you to everybody -- and that we're all in this together. Standing Tall for All, J.D. Scholten |
