King County Metro is planning for the future of its paratransit rideshare service, Access Transportation. This project is called Future of Paratransit and will shape the service for the next five to ten years. Metro is looking for those interested in having a role in this project to take part in the Future of Paratransit Mobility Board.
For the Future of Paratransit Mobility Board, Metro seeks community members that meet at least one of the following criteria.
Current Access paratransit riders or caregivers to Access paratransit riders.
Representatives of organizations that provide services to/or support Access paratransit riders.
Representatives of organizations that support Access paratransit riders and/or potential riders who are linguistically diverse.
A history of riding Access or providing transportation support to other Access riders (at least one-year of experience).
Experience identifying transportation challenges of multiple Access riders (at least one-year of experience).
Being a member of the Future of Paratransit Mobility Board will require an approximate 1-year commitment beginning May 2024, meeting an average of 3 hours per month. Dates and times will vary depending on project timeline and selected board member availability.
Members of the Future of Paratransit Mobility Board are paid for their participation, a stipend of $75 an hour for their time, expertise, and any related transportation costs. Board members are expected to have regular access to email and access to a device (computer, phone, tablet) where Zoom or Microsoft Teams can be used.
Mobility Board applications are being accepted through Tuesday, April 30, 2024. You can access application form by going to this link. This application will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. If you have any questions about the listed expectations or believe you will require accommodations, or if you need assistance filling out this application or prefer to complete this survey in another language or format, please email [email protected] or call 206-263-9768 by March 28 or read more on the Metro Matters blog.

Your voice is needed on improving transportation connections in south King County
As soon as 2026, Sound Transit will expand the Link light rail 1 Line to three new stations in Kent Des Moines, Star Lake and Federal Way. This expansion may also bring changes to ST Express buses in the project area. Metro is collaborating with Sound Transit and other partners to develop a future transit network informed by feedback from communities.
The following Metro routes will be explored for potential changes as part of the South Link Connections Project: RapidRideA Line, 121, 122, 123, 154, 156, 157, 162, 165, 177, 178, 179, 181, 182, 183, 187, 190, 193, 197, 631, 901, 903.
More details are available on the Metro South Link Mobility Project website.
Here are some great opportunities to help shape the future of transit in south King County through South Link Connections:
Apply to join the Mobility Board (a paid leadership opportunity) and advise Metro on community engagement efforts and the best ways to update our transit network.
Live, work, and/or travel within the communities of south King County.
Are transit riders or potential transit riders.
Bring perspective as an individual (not as an organization).
Are interested in drawing connections between racial equity, transportation issues, and access to opportunities.
We want our Mobility Board to equitably represent groups of people who have historically been left out of decision-making related to transit and who are disproportionately affected by these decisions. We strongly encourage people with the following identities and lived experiences to apply: Black, Indigenous, and people of Color; immigrants and refugees; people who speak languages other than English; residents who are low-income or no-income; and people with disabilities.
The deadline to take the survey and apply to be a mobility board member is May 10th.
If you need help completing this application or prefer to complete this survey in another language or format, please email [email protected] or call 206-263-9768 or read more on the Metro Matters blog.
Every month, operators from King County Metro’s seven transit bases select their fellow drivers for their positive contributions to Metro and recognize them as Operators of the Month. The operators selected demonstrate safe driving skills, show courteous and helpful attitudes toward customers, and pay conscientious attention to attendance, appearance, and discipline.
