Public Safety Press Conference
Nash Press Conference 32024
This week we continued to fight for the safety of our police and their right to justice since the tragic incident involving three Burnsville first responders. The scandal involving Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty?s involves her attempt to change and then suppress the testimony of her own handpicked expert witness who recommended against prosecution of State Trooper Ryan Londregan. Public safety is a top priority of state government and Mary Moriarty?s lack of respect for our officers is abhorrent. The men and women who put their lives on the line have my utmost respect and I will continue to call for the resignation of Mary Moriarty.?
During a press conference on March 20th, I introduced a bill (HF4452 [ [link removed] ]) that would require that a county attorney use the grand jury process if charging an officer with a crime. In the case of State Trooper Ryan Londregan, Moriarty has made the capricious decision on her own to immediately charge Trooper Londregan, completely ignoring the investigation that was put in place. Trooper Ryan Londregan had a duty to protect himself and his partner, which use-of-force experts have called a justifiable shooting.?
Mary Moriarty is acting irresponsibly, recklessly, abhorrently, and is doing absolutely nothing to show support of the men and women in law enforcement. That is why HF4452 needs to be passed in order to show our men and women in blue that they have our full support.??
*HF 310 ? Protecting our children from Level 3 Sex offenders.?*?
Nash HF310
This week I presented a bill (HF310 [ [link removed] ]) during the Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee that would provide more criteria to be met in order to place level 3 sex offenders in neighborhoods after their release. This is something I have been working on for two years now, since an incident in Victoria. The safety of our children should be a top priority. Two years ago, in the City of Victoria, a level 3 sex offender was placed in a neighborhood that was home to 728 children. In his court case file, it was said that he sexualized the voices of children, and yet he was still placed in a heavily child-populated area.?
I have frequently said that people have the right to live somewhere, but not every somewhere is right. This is what HF310 aims to fix. During this committee I invited a testifier from Victoria, Zach Husted, who shared his concerns about the safety of his own children, and all the children in his community. Mr. Husted had to take away the innocence of his children by explaining that their safety was at risk due to a sexual predator, something that no parent should have to do.?
This offender was not only placed in this community of 728 children, but he was placed in a home that had a children?s bus stop directly in front of it, and a local pond in his backyard that is regularly used by the children of Victoria. The community in Victoria fought against this and pleaded to not place the offender in their neighborhood, but the Department of Corrections had no criteria that could stop them from doing so. The goal of this bill is to make sure that level 3 sex offenders are placed in the appropriate area after matching a higher level of criteria.???

*Deadline week*?
Nash photo
This week we had both first and second deadlines. Due to both the deadlines being on the same day, the House has been incredibly busy with committee meetings to pass individual bills and assemble omnibus bills. Unfortunately, even though Democrats have been cautioned against any more spending because of the looming deficit, they continue to advance bills that will cost taxpayers even more money.?I remain dedicated to protecting your pocketbooks and advocating for common sense proposals as session moves along.
