Working to Unleash American Energy and Lower Prices
This was energy week in the House of Representatives. Congress passed six major bills focused on lowering energy costs for America, standing up for American energy, and ensuring the United States leads the way on producing clean, affordable, and reliable energy.
These bills focus on five key policies:
- Increasing domestic energy production
- Reforming the permitting process
- Reversing anti-energy policies
- Streamlining energy infrastructure
- Rescinding wasteful Green New Deal spending
The bottom line is this: High energy costs make life unaffordable for the hardworking people of this country. I’m confident these bills can ease that burden by driving down prices and help us build a better and more secure future for everyone. To do that, however, they must still win support in the Senate and gain President Biden’s signature.
Keeping Our Communities Safe
Crime is a serious problem. It is critical we stand with the men and women in law enforcement. It’s important that we work to mitigate violent crime across the country and right here at home. Last Spring, Wisconsin adopted a new amendment to our state’s constitution relating to bail reform. This amendment was a direct response to concerns for public safety and it represented a modest step forward for public safety. I’ve heard from countless families who remain concerned with crime and the policies we have in place. Addressing the crime crisis is a top priority for me as I work in Congress.

As crime continues to remain a serious threat, I'm focused on finding ways we can reduce violent crime and making sure American families are safe. This week, I led a Committee on House Administration hearing on how soft-on-crime policies are affecting D.C. You can watch the hearing by clicking here or the image above. Dangerous criminal justice policies threaten us all, and I am working to reverse these dangerous trends.
My Week
Veterans Affairs Award
It was an honor to be presented this year's Legislator of the Year Award from the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs. I look forward to continuing our work together to best serve our veterans.
Breakfast With Some of Wisconsin's Finest
Thursday, I joined WisPolitics for their first quarterly breakfast of 2024 which had many Wisconsin students in attendance. While we discussed some fun topics like whether our Badgers can get the job done today against James Madison University, I was also glad to hear many vitally important questions from our future leaders from UW Madison and Marquette University. We had a great discussion on crime, border security, inflation, and many other timely topics.
Celebrating Our Spring 2024 Harper Interns
Established by Rep. Gregg Harper in 2010, the Congressional Internship Program for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities is a unique program designed to give students with disabilities an opportunity to gain congressional work experience. Harper launched the internship program with three Mason LIFE students and six House offices. To date, nearly 200 congressional offices from the House and Senate have participated. In coalition with George Mason University, I manage the program as Chair of the House Administration Committee. It’s a pleasure having such hardworking individuals join offices across Congress and I am excited to see a great program continue to evolve.
My office has been lucky to have Chris working with us this Spring. Chris is a senior at George Mason University in the Mason LIFE Program. Some of his favorite office tasks include organizing our files. His favorite food is sushi, Magenta is his favorite color, and one place he would like to visit in the future is Japan.
His presence has kept our office light-hearted and well-organized. Thank you for all your hard work, Chris!
On Wisconsin,
Bryan Steil Member of Congress
