You Deserve Better 👎

Another day, another trillion dollars
<[link removed]>
spent.

Somebody asked why I voted against the latest monstrosity of a spending bill,
and the answer is simple: I actually read it! More than1,000 pages
<[link removed]>
of fluff that will do nothing to fix the mountain of problems we’ve got in
this country.

Sure, we’ll fund the government right in the nick of time to avoid a shutdown
<[link removed]>
, but we’re just kicking the can down the road and adding to our growing debt
that will eventually be due—and I guess that time bomb isn’t ticking loud
enough to knock some sense into my colleagues.

But there’s another big problem with this bill: a total lack of regard for the
crisis at our southern border. I’ve said it before, folks, and I’ll say it
again: no border, no budget.

My constituents back in Tennessee say the number one issue
<[link removed]>
they’re concerned about is illegal immigration and the impact it’ll have onour
state
<[link removed]>
. They’re frustrated by the federal government’s dilly-dallying because no one
is doing anything about it—even the Republicans who got themselves into power
on the promise of holding the line.

I refuse to be one of them, and that’s why I refused to vote in favor of
today’s spending bill.

These so-called “bipartisan solutions” add more bureaucracy to an issue
spiraling out of control. Considering100 migrants
<[link removed]>
just broke through razor wire and trampled over guards yesterday in a total
display of lawlessness
<[link removed]>
, I’d say it’s high time we do something.

Build a wall, bring our troops home from foreign wars, and put them down at
the border to get ahold of this mess. We’re witnessing something that is far
beyond chaos at this point. The border situation is a mounting national
security threat that we can’t continue to ignore.

I refuse to throw my hands up in surrender and let this all unfold. Today, I
took a stand for what’s right because Biden’s America is broken, and you
deserve better.

Community Helpers 🧡

Thank you to the Wesley House <[link removed]> in Knoxville
for allowing me to come tour their renovation project and learn about the many
ways they serve our community.

Established in 1907 by three United Methodist Women groups, the organization
was formed to support mothers working at the cotton mill to support their
families. The UMW recognized their need for childcare and stepped in to fill
the gap with that helpful Knoxville spirit we all know and love.

More than a century later, the organization now provides after school and
summer camp services for Knoxville’s most under-resourced and marginalized
communities, and they also have a program for senior citizens looking for
social connections.

It was a privilege to see their dedication in action, and I look forward to
seeing how they continue to grow and make an impact once the renovation is
complete. I know I speak for all of us in Knoxville when I say the community is
blessed by your efforts!
