In the wee hours of this Friday morning—at 2:32 a.m.—House leadership posted a 1,000-plus page “minibus” spending bill that spends $1.2 trillion of your hard-earned money. On what? Who knows—because the House then called it up for a vote a mere 8.5 hours later around 11 a.m. this morning!
And the Senate is expected to take it up later today!
It could be law before midnight!
This is not how things should work.
Having a handful of House and Senate leadership lackeys "negotiate" a massive bill behind closed doors and then throw it onto the floor mere hours later saying “take it or leave it” is an insult to all Americans.
It’s a throwback to the smoke-filled rooms of the past—complete with pork and earmarks galore to buy the bill’s passage—that the American people have had enough of.
<[link removed]>Stop the spending <[link removed]>Agreeing to such a grotesque process—never mind spending levels Americans can’t afford—is disqualifying for anyone in leadership but especially a speaker elected on the promise of returning to regular order and fiscal discipline.
It’s clear that nothing will change unless we make it change.
That’s why Michigan can’t afford to elect a go-along-get-along leadership lackey to the U.S. Senate like former Rep. (and House Intelligence Committee chairman) Mike Rogers.
In the years we served together in the House, Mike Rogers voted for almost every spending bill put in front of him.
<[link removed]>Stop the spending <[link removed]>On omnibus after omnibus, Mike Rogers voted yes, despite conservative outcries over out-of-control spending and skyrocketing debt.
Meanwhile, my top-ranked fiscally conservative voting record speaks for itself.
Compare our voting records on every omnibus that came to the floor while we served together:
H.R. 2112, Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2012
Rogers: YES
Amash: NO
H.R. 2055, Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2012
Rogers: YES
Amash: NO
H.R. 933, Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2013
Rogers: YES
Amash: NO
H.R. 3547, Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2014
Rogers: YES
Amash: NO
H.R. 83, Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015
Rogers: YES
Amash: NO
And it’ll be more of the same in the Senate: I’ll stand with the American people. Mike Rogers will stand with the swamp.

Conservative and libertarian Republicans in the Senate need reinforcements. Together, we’ll get it done.
