Our military service members make incredible sacrifices for our country. Yet, too often they face unnecessary hurdles when it comes to receiving the benefits they’ve earned, from housing to health care and more.
I’m taking action to reduce these burdens: This month I spearheaded bipartisan legislation to make it easier for military service members to access student loan forgiveness.
This is about doing right by our veterans and active duty members. Under this bill, we’re removing the red tape that stands in the way of service members obtaining the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) credit.
“When I joined the Marine Corps in 2012 after earning my college degree, I still had student loan debt from my undergraduate education. While I was serving my country in uniform, a portion of my paycheck every month was going back to pay federal loans that allowed me to earn my degree.” - Janessa Goldbeck, Vet Voice Foundation CEO and Marine Corps veteran
It should not be this complicated and burdensome for military service members to receive the benefits they are owed.
By streamlining the process by which veterans and active duty members can access student loan forgiveness under the PSLF program, we’re working to ensure that the American dream remains in reach for them.
