This week, I spoke at a House Transportation and Infrastructure Markup where I explained the disastrous effects that offshore wind turbines would have on our coast. The implementation of these projects would have a devastating impact on our communities, and I continue to oppose this as an expensive and inefficient source of energy.
If these projects were to be implemented, ratepayers would see their utility bills skyrocket. The construction of offshore wind farms requires a major upfront investment, and this cost would be passed on to the taxpayer through a raise in utility bills. The implementation of these projects would force us to depend on other countries for our energy production. If offshore wind farms are developed and owned by foreign companies, that would mean foreign entities are in control of very critical infrastructure which poses a dire national security threat.
We accomplished a massive win in August of 2023 when Orsted announced the cancellation of its massive offshore wind projects in South Jersey, Ocean Wind 1 and 2. Yet, the fight continues as President Biden and Governor Murphy remain advocates for the Green New Deal. It is time we consider alternative sources and start producing energy here at home.
