Bigoted Bills Lead to Rise in Hate Crimes

If you need another reason to elect LGBTQ+ leaders to public office (or to step up and run yourself), let this article be it: In states with laws targeting LGBTQ issues, school hate crimes quadrupled, according to The Washington Post.

LGBTQ+ candidates – and elected officials - have been instrumental in advancing crucial legislation, from championing non-discrimination laws to defeating harmful amendments aimed at limiting marriage equality. Their voices resonate not only within their communities but also in the halls of government, where they tirelessly advocate for progress and equality.

Electing more LGBTQ+ candidates is not only essential – it’s one of the best ways to protect LGBTQ+ kids in schools.

The Latest Wins: Victory in Illinois, Ohio and Florida!

In Ohio, Victory Fund endorsed candidates Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey was unopposed in her primary election, while David Donofrio did not have a primary for Ohio State Board of Education!

Vice President of Political Programs Sean Meloy hit the campaign trail with our candidate, Taylor Sappington, running for Athens County Treasurer. Taylor declared victory!

In Illinois, U.S. Rep Eric Sorenson, State Sen. Mike Simmons, State Rep. Kelly Cassidy and Peoria County Board Member Rob Reneau were unopposed in their primary elections. Precious Brady Davis was unopposed in the special Democratic primary for Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago!

In Florida, incumbent candidate Sarah Malega, running for Lake Worth Beach City Commission, pulled off a big win. She won with over 57% of the vote!

Meet Tammy Baldwin’s Millionaire Opponent

There’s new polling from Tammy Baldwin’s reelection campaign for the U.S. Senate: she is neck and neck with her opponent, Eric Hovde, who previously ran for the seat in 2012. Hovde  has pledged to spend $20 million of his own money to defeat Tammy – but Tammy has already hit the airwaves with her own ad touting her record to preserve Wisconsin jobs.

As he stated during his testimony, “Bills like this impact real people. I’m here actually asking you to see me and to see us. We are human beings. We are your neighbors. We are your constituents. We are valuable members of this community.”
