My work in TX-31 and Congress Howdy Texan – I'm headed back to Texas after a busy week in Washington, so it's a good time to send you an update on my work for Texas' 31st district. ON THE DOCKET: Veterans Mental Health Leadership Award Hosting General Flynn What do you think? Energy Week THE BRIEF: The U.S. Department of Justice filed a landmark lawsuit against Apple on Thursday, accusing it of monopolizing the smartphone market. China is building its military and nuclear arsenal on a scale not seen since World War II and all signs suggest it’s sticking to ambitions to be ready to invade Taiwan by 2027, a top US admiral testified. Much of Texas' 31st district is preparing for a solar eclipse on April 8th. For resources on what to expect, click here. VETERANS MENTAL HEALTH LEADERSHIP AWARD This week, I was proud to be presented with the Veterans Mental Health Leadership Award for my work to help veterans struggling with PTSD and end the veteran suicide epidemic. As chairman of the Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Appropriations, I'm committed to tackling the most pressing issues America's heroes are facing as they return to civilian life. HOSTING GENERAL FLYNN As the co-chair of the House Army Caucus, I hosted General Charles Flynn, the U.S. Army Pacific Commanding General, to brief members on the threats in the region and the Pacific Deterrence Initiative. China continues to threaten America's national security. As they become more aggressive, strong deterrence efforts are crucial to maintaining stability and protecting the homeland. WHAT DO YOU THINK? The House recently passed legislation that requires TikTok owner ByteDance to separate itself from foreign adversaries, like China, due to serious national security concerns. If ByteDance chooses not to separate itself from the People's Republic of China, the bill prohibits app stores and web hosting services from hosting the application. Do you agree or disagree with the House passed bill to force TikTok to divest from the CCP? Agree Disagree ENERGY WEEK This week, the House voted on several energy-focused bills to oppose President Biden's war on American energy. The Restoring American Energy Dominance Act would nullify the Bureau of Land Management's proposed rule that stifles energy production on federal lands. The Protecting American Energy Production Act prevents any president from unilaterally banning the practice of fracking. The Creating Confidence in Clean Water Permitting Act reforms and restores permitting processes under the Clean Water Act. H. Con. Res. 86 expresses Congressional disapproval of President Biden’s planned carbon tax. Energy security is national security, and since President Biden took office, he has waged war on American energy production. To safeguard the nation, we must focus on energy independence and replenish our Strategic Petroleum Reserves. As always, thank you for taking the time to stay updated on what's happening in Texas' 31st congressional district. Representing you and Texas in the United States House is an honor and privilege.
