Hosting the Committee on Ways and Means in North Texas...   Washington, D.C. - On Monday, I hosted my Ways & Means Committee colleagues in North Texas for a field hearing. We heard from medical professionals, first responders, and patients about the challenges they face in providing and accessing emergency medical care. You can watch my opening remarks by clicking the photo below or read more about this field hearing in the Work of the Week section. As a former mayor, it’s always great to catch up with the hardworking mayors in North Texas. I enjoyed getting to visit with Denton Mayor, Gerard Hudspeth, at the Ways and Means field hearing in his city. I appreciated Global Medical Response (GMR) hosting the Committee on Ways and Means' North Texas field hearing. As the world’s largest provider of medical transportation services, GMR provides emergency care for folks in North Texas and millions across the country. Prior to our hearing, my colleagues and I toured Medical City Denton's facilities in Argyle. We were able to see their emergency care operations firsthand and discuss the challenges they face. While I was touring Medical City Denton, our team hosted our annual appropriations review board at our district office. We invited city leadership from all the communities in our district so they could discuss their priorities and determine which projects would be most helpful for Texas-24. On Tuesday, I traveled back to D.C. to continue to work toward common-sense policy wins for American families. This week, my colleagues and I focused on bills that would expand domestic energy production and ease the onerous regulatory burdens imposed by this Administration. I'm fighting back against these harmful policies and am pleased to share we passed several pieces of legislation that will lower energy costs for our families and protect our national security. Next, on Wednesday, I joined my Small Business Committee colleagues for a hearing with the head of the Small Business Administration (SBA), Administrator Isabel Guzman. She has repeatedly thwarted our oversight of the SBA, even though the agency has cost taxpayers billions of dollars through mismanagement and waste. You can click here or on the photo below to watch my line of questioning. Later in the day, I met with the Mortgage Bankers Association. We had a productive conversation about the mortgage and real estate market in our district and the impact it has on our North Texas economy. I’m working to empower Americans to achieve the American Dream of homeownership and cut down on bureaucratic red tape. After, I met with Andrew Applewhite, a Texas-24 native and Texas A&M’s student body president, and Jay Silveria, their D.C. campus VP and COO. We discussed the importance of mental health resources on campus and school transportation expansion for students. I also joined my Ways and Means colleagues for a hearing on the President's budget with the Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra. I questioned Secretary Becerra about his harmful policies that promote fraud, exacerbate problems stemming from the border crisis, and cut funding for maternal care. You can click the photo below to watch my line of questioning. On Thursday, I had a productive meeting with the Boy Scouts of America where we were able to discuss how they serve North Texans and the programs they offer our community. Then, I joined the House Foreign Affairs Committee for an oversight hearing with State Department officials. In June of last year, after it was unveiled that taxpayer dollars were used to blacklist conservative news outlets, I worked with the Chairman of the Small Business Committee, Rep. Roger Williams (TX-25), to demand information from the State Department about their grants to the Global Engagement Center which funded censorship. During Thursday's hearing, I pressed State Department officials for answers about this concerning and unconstitutional use of taxpayer funds. You can watch my remarks and line of questioning here or by clicking the photo below. On Friday, I voted against an appropriations bill that did not significantly curtail wasteful spending or implement policies to secure the border. You can read my statement on this important vote here. Texas-24 Work of the Week This week, I was glad to host a field hearing in North Texas alongside my colleagues on Ways and Means and Chairman Smith. I’m grateful we were able to learn from North Texans and hear creative solutions about strengthening access to emergency medical services. Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is Captain Greg Hewitt from Keller Fire Rescue. Captain Hewitt has dedicated 16 years to being a firefighter and serving North Texans. Thank you, Captain Hewitt, for your selflessness and bravery in protecting our community! Congressional Art Competition I’m honored to announce that I was selected to co-chair the 2024 Congressional Art Competition! This is an amazing opportunity for artists to showcase their talents and one of our most successful student programs! I’m looking forward to seeing this year's artwork. The deadline to submit your artwork is April 15th. You can learn more by clicking here or on the photo below. Rep. Van Duyne in the News Watch Rep. Van Duyne on CNN International Watch Rep.
