Dear neighbor,

This week, once again, House Democrats provided the votes to stop stupid stuff by avoiding a partial government shutdown. Extreme MAGA Republicans have driven our country to the brink of economic disaster and government shutdowns multiple times. Every time, Democrats have provided the majority of the votes needed to keep the government open and protect the American public.

House Republicans are doing nothing to help the American family. This week, they released a new budget proposal that lays out their plan to raise the Social Security retirement age, end Medicare as we know it, and ban IVF. These policies are extreme and out of step with the American people. House Democrats remain united to do everything we can to lower costs, create jobs and move the American family forward.

House Democrats also know that it is absolutely critical to support democracies abroad. We continue to call on Speaker Johnson to let the House vote on a bipartisan national security funding package that would send Ukraine the aid they so desperately need to keep up their fight against Vladimir Putin. Watch my full remarks from this week’s leadership press conference below.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK: I was thrilled to join my partner in leading the House AI Task Force, Jay Obernolte (R-CA), for a discussion on the future of AI moderated by UCLA’s Blueprint Magazine Editor Jim Newton. As Co-Chair of the Task Force, I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues on responsible, effective guardrails for AI development.
