Dear Friend,

We will be taking next week off from the Telegram to enjoy the Easter holiday, and I wanted to take a moment to wish you all a peaceful and blessed time with your families and friends.

Whether you’re planning an Easter egg hunt, renewing your faith, or simply enjoying the weekend, the Seventh District has numerous family-friendly events planned. For annual Easter egg hunts and parades, click here for northern Wisconsin and here for western Wisconsin.

While Spring sprung this week, Congress wasted no time springing to spend more of your tax dollars.

This week congressional leadership and President Biden announced the final installment of government funding for Fiscal Year 2024 – a $1.2 trillion minibus “basket” filled full of rotten eggs.

Since the beginning, I have pushed for a return to regular order, where Congress considers each of the twelve annual appropriations bills in an open and transparent way.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen this year. Instead, congressional leadership once again combined many of these bills into a giant, 1,012 page bill that was released at 2 AM yesterday and voted on today. While we weren’t even given 72 hours to review the package, my team was still able to find some “egg-stremely” concerning provisions.

The first rotten egg: Tucked into the minibus is a $400,000 earmark for Briarpatch Youth Services in Wisconsin. This organization provides chest binders, tuck equipment, and mutilation counseling to minors without parental consent – and the plot chickens: Senator Baldwin is the one that requested this earmark.

To be clear: The federal government should not be using your tax dollars to subsidize trans clothing. You can watch my comments on this ridiculous earmark here.

The second rotten egg: This bill continues to fund Biden’s border invasion without any of the common-sense policy reforms we enacted earlier this year in the House border bill, H.R. 2. It also sets aside $117 million of taxpayer money for FEMA’s Emergency Food and Shelter Program to give to sanctuary jurisdictions and NGOs more money to enable and facilitate illegal immigration into our country.

Congress has the power of the purse, and this was a real missed opportunity to use that leverage to make Joe Biden do his job and secure the border. Even worse, lawmakers approved this “hare-brained” legislation just one day after the Texas National Guard was overrun by illegal aliens storming the border.

The third rotten egg: Even after the FBI has gone after our First Amendment rights, parents at school board meetings, and Catholics, this package rewards them with $200 million for a new headquarters.

In short, this package continues Washington’s failed status quo, and as a result, I voted against it. You can see how every lawmaker voted on it here.

Thanks again for starting your week off with the Tiffany Telegram. Don’t forget to follow the “bunny” trail to X, Facebook, and Truth to also stay up to date on what our office is doing.

Sincerely,

The $1.2 trillion minibus isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

“Just Say No” to more Haitian migrants

By now, many of you have seen news reports coming out of Haiti, where roving bands of criminal gangs led by violent figures like a man known as “Barbecue” (a nickname he earned by reportedly setting his rivals on fire) have plunged the country into chaos. Predictably, President Biden quickly announced plans to “process” Haitians at the US base in Guantanamo Bay. Some far-left lawmakers doubled down, suggesting an extension of temporary amnesty for Haitian migrants here in the U.S. – something the Biden administration has already done once before, despite President Trump’s efforts to end this misguided policy. This must stop, and it’s why I penned a letter to President Biden, asking him to instead use his existing authority to suspend the entry of Haitian nationals. Here’s the bottom line: It is not America’s responsibility to perpetually absorb large numbers of foreigners from every unstable, developing country on earth – and it does not serve the best interests of the American people to continue doing so. Biden’s border crisis has already dumped far too much strain on local social services, safety net programs, public health infrastructure, and schools. It is time for other countries in the region to step up and solve their own problems. You can read the text of my letter here, and read more about the situation here.

Biden administration “loses” 85,000 migrant children

You read that right. Less than a month ago, President Biden’s own Department of Health and Human Services sounded the alarm about this shocking development. That, in turn, prompted inquiries from a number of state attorneys general, who raised concerns that many of these vulnerable children may have become victims of human smuggling due to problems confirming the identities of so-called “sponsors” – many of whom were not even U.S. citizens, and reportedly provided fake addresses to authorities. It isn’t just tragic that the Biden administration’s irresponsible policies have helped fuel a historic epidemic of transnational human trafficking, it is outrageous. That’s why this week, I joined several of my colleagues in demanding answers and pushing the administration to put more stringent standards in place to prevent this problem from getting even worse. You can check out the letter we sent, and read more about this grim situation, here.

On Wisconsin!

I had a great meeting this week with the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association where I got to discuss their top legislative priorities and meet with constituents who are currently students at UW-Madison. The University of Wisconsin is known around the world for their prestigious research, and I am happy to support funding for some of these crucial projects. I am especially looking forward to seeing the advancements they make in Alzheimer’s disease research—which Madison is a national leader in. It is always great to see Badgers in Washington.

Good luck to Nina and William as they finish their college careers at UW-Madison.

Committee Update

Natural Resources

Tapping into America’s mineral wealth responsibly

On Wednesday, the Federal Lands subcommittee held a legislative hearing on six bills, to hold the Biden administration accountable for its out-of-touch policies that are hurting rural economies and ignoring the very people who live, work, and recreate on public land. The anti-energy and anti-American policies advanced under this administration are staggering, with an attempted ban on oil and gas leasing, 3.5 million acres in new unilateral “national monument” designations, and proposed conservation leases that would allow anyone – including hostile foreign nations – to lock up our precious energy and mineral resources. During my questioning of one of the Democrats’ witnesses on child and slave labor being used to mine abroad, he stated that such horrifying practices are simply “the reality.” This is sad. After all, we have abundant mineral wealth in America. Why are we relying on foreign minerals extracted in unstable countries employing child slave labor to do it? It would make far more sense to support domestic production instead of locking up more land and “outsourcing” this activity in such grim ways. Stopping anti-energy policies remain a top priority for the Natural Resources Committee Republicans, which is why I’m glad we were able to discuss real solutions to these issues. You can watch my full questioning of the witnesses here.

Judiciary

Witness claims Biden family guilty of foreign influence peddling

It seems like just yesterday the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing to determine whether to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress. As you may remember, during that hearing, House Democrats repeatedly told us that Hunter was willing to testify – as long as it was held in a public hearing. This week the House Oversight Committee allowed Hunter to do just that, but guess who still didn’t manage to show up? You guessed it – Hunter Biden. His refusal to attend spoke volumes, but the hearing continued in his absence. The House investigation previously found a massive web of wire transfers, 20 shell companies, and associates who helped the Biden family business rake in at least $20 million from foreign nationals. Two of Hunter’s former business partners, Tony Bobulinski and Jason Galanis, testified on their foreign business dealings and Joe Biden’s involvement. In his opening statement, Mr. Bobulinski didn’t mince words as he announced, “The Bidens are guilty of foreign influence peddling.” You can read Mr. Bobulinski’s testimony here. Later in the hearing, AOC grilled Bobulinski on whether he witnessed Joe Biden commit a crime – she wanted a simple yes or no answer – until his answer was yes. AOC defended the President’s actions while she falsely informed the witness that Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) wasn’t a crime. You can watch their exchange here.

The truth about the Biden crime family will be exposed – with or without Hunter.

Recent Legislation

Targeting “trigger leads”

Many constituents have reached out to my office after applying for a mortgage and receiving a swarm of calls, known as trigger leads. I cosponsored Representative John Rose’s (TN-06) bill, H.R. 7297, that prohibits credit bureaus from selling your private information as you shop for a mortgage unless you explicitly opt-in to this service. This bill gives Wisconsinites more power over their personal information and puts an end to the annoying spam clogging up your voicemail inbox.
