What is COVID-19 Vaccine Turbo Cancer?

Vincent Iannelli, MD

Why do some people think that COVID-19 vaccine turbo cancer is a thing?

Although he claims to be an oncologist, William Makis is a Nuclear Medicine Radiologist - who lost his medical license in 2018. And it doesn't seem like he talks to or examines any of these patients that he has diagnosed with COVID-19 vaccine turbo cancer on Twitter.
Although he claims to be an oncologist, William Makis is a Nuclear Medicine Radiologist - who lost his medical license in 2018. And it doesn't seem like he talks to or examines any of these patients that he has diagnosed with COVID-19 vaccine turbo cancer on Twitter. How soon before he posts about Kate Middleton?

The usual suspects...

What is COVID-19 Vaccine Turbo Cancer?

Like they do with non-COVID excess deaths, anti-vaccine folks have gotten to blaming any and all new cancer diagnoses and cancer deaths on COVID-19 vaccines.

How far will these guys go to make you think COVID-19 vaccines are causing a rise in cancer and cancer deaths? Will they misdiagnosis patients with cancers they don't even have???

These are the COVID-19 vaccine turbo cancers they talk about...

Can COVID-19 Vaccines Cause 'Turbo Cancers?'

Not surprisingly, their claims about COVID-19 vaccine turbo cancer have been found to be false - over and over again.

  • There is no evidence that COVID-19 vaccines cause “turbo cancer”
  • Paper does not prove Pfizer mRNA vaccine causes 'turbo cancer'
  • No evidence COVID-19 vaccines have caused increase in cancers, contrary to claims made on social media
  • False claims persist about COVID-19 vaccine-linked “turbo cancers”
  • Posts link Covid-19 vaccines to 'turbo-cancers' without evidence
  • No evidence that DNA sequence used in Pfizer shot leads to cancer and other health issues
  • Posts Spread False Claim About Moderna Patent Application
  • COVID-19 Vaccines Have Not Been Shown to Cause ‘Turbo Cancer’
  • US government hasn't reported 'surge' in cancer among vaccinated people
  • No evidence COVID-19 vaccines cause ‘turbo cancer’
  • False claim COVID-19 vaccines are linked to 'spike' in cancer cases
  • Is this “turbo cancer” claim the single dumbest misuse of VAERS that I’ve ever seen?
  • Dr. William Makis: Promoting the nonsense that is “turbo cancer”
  • Epidemiologist Harvey Risch promotes the false narrative of “turbo cancer”
  • COVID-19 vaccines do not cause turbo cancer

In fact, studies show that COVID vaccines, including booster doses, are safe and effective in people with active cancers.

They are necessary too, as people with cancer and cancer survivors are at high risk for severe COVID infections.

Are Early-Onset Cancers Increasing?

A study does provide some evidence that early-onset cancers have been increasing.

"Global incidence of early-onset cancer increased by 79.1% and the number of early-onset cancer deaths increased by 27.7% between 1990 and 2019."

Global trends in incidence, death, burden and risk factors of early-onset cancer from 1990 to 2019

Increasing between 1990 and 2019, so well before the COVID pandemic.

And before you jump to blame other vaccines for these early-onset cancers, the authors of the study state that "Dietary risk factors (diet high in red meat, low in fruits, high in sodium and low in milk, etc), alcohol consumption and tobacco use are the main risk factors underlying early-onset cancers."
