This week, the House GOP presented what they called "Energy Week," a series of legislative efforts that highlight a vision for our country’s energy policy deeply rooted in the past.
The week was a rendition of all of their greatest hits: promoting fracking, decreasing fees for oil and gas companies who drill on public lands, repealing major climate programs from the Inflation Reduction Act, and on and on and on.
Speaker Mike Johnson’s agenda, focused on propping up the fossil fuel industry and repealing the climate progress we’ve already made, demonstrates a concerning lack of forward-thinking solutions to the urgent challenges we face.
True progress looks forward, not backward. A genuine "Energy Week" would be about pioneering the future of clean energy, not resurrecting the ghosts of past energy policies.
It's time for policies that match the urgency of the climate crisis, moving us toward a cleaner, more resilient energy system. We should instead be passing bills like the Casten-Levin Clean Electricity and Transmission Acceleration Act sponsored by our SEEC Members, which would be a bold step towards transitioning to clean energy and enhancing our transmission infrastructure.
Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
