Thanks to all of you who have answered our survey about what Congress needs to do to respond to the COVID-19 crisis.

Here’s what some have already cited as their highest priorities:
 


Providing immediate cash payments to those who need it most

Investing in health care and medical research

Safeguarding the census and the November election



And the top two responses so far are:


Rebuilding the economy by investing in infrastructure

Preventing companies from using funds for share buybacks and CEO bonuses



A few days ago, Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which will begin to tackle many of these issues.

The CARES Act includes expanded unemployment benefits, immediate cash payments for many Americans, help for small businesses, funding for the health care system and medical research, and other targeted relief.

Of course, this is only the beginning. Yes, we stopped McConnell and Trump from creating an unlimited bailout fund that could have gone to the Trump organization or favored industries — but we have a lot more work to do to get through this crisis together.

My Democratic colleagues and I are committed to continuing to help all Americans recover from this unprecedented public health crisis. It’s so important that we continue to hear directly from you during this extremely difficult period.
