Report on March 9 Sister District Summit

Sister District's March 9 Annual Summit was a resounding success!  We heard from Arizona Governer Katie Hobbs and former Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes on a host of topics such as our 2024 strategy, and donor and digital organizing.

Materials from this important gathering are now available here:

Support Our 2024 State Bridges Partners!

On March 13, Sister District DC Metro Area, along with Sister District groups from across the country,  supported our State Bridges partners in Pennsylvania (Pennsylvania Stands Up and Pennsylvania United ) in an online event.  The forum  featured special guests from our partner organizations, conversations with Sister District founders and leaders, and opportunities for attendees to ask questions and learn more about what’s happening on the ground.

193 people joined us live and to date, Sister District’s community has raised a total of $42,572 for our Arizona and Pennsylvania partners! That brings us to $52,572 with our matching funds.

You can hear a recording of the event here

Who is Sister District DC Metro Area?

We are volunteers who agree that elections for state legislatures are where the real change is made, and understand the impact small efforts and donations can make in these critical elections.

The DC Metro Area Steering Committee helps drive our efforts. Kara Kilpatrick is a member of the Steering and Communications committees.

Kara works on a national longitudinal study on health and aging. She predominantly assists with instrument design and data collection. Kara appreciates that, in some small way, her work is contributing to a greater understanding of how life changes as we age.

Kara joined Sister District in 2023 because she was frustrated with the political landscape and searching for a way to become more involved. She has enjoyed being part of the steering committee, and takes great pride in its collective accomplishments over the past year. She recognizes the importance and impact organizations like Sister District have, and is grateful to be part of the team.

Away from work, Kara enjoys taking care of her cat, Bobby, exploring the DMV, and engaging in political activism.

Before You Go...

Sister District's mission is to imagine, build, and expand progressive power in state legislatures, and we know that organizing around elections is just one piece of the puzzle.

That's why we're amplifying the voices of local lawmakers, educating the public about the importance of state leaders and policies, and inspiring people to deepen their civic engagement -- especially locally and down-ballot.
