Friends,
For people who care deeply about others, as we in Fayetteville do, things are really hard right now. Women's health is just one area where it can be easy to feel overwhelmed or even helpless.
If you believe Arkansas's total abortion ban has gone too far, you are not extreme. You are not alone. And you are not helpless.
Our current ban does not allow for ANY exceptions. Not in the case of rape. Or incest. Not even for mothers who have been told their baby has a condition that makes it impossible for them to survive outside the womb.
If you think this total ban goes too far, you are not alone. In fact, you are part of the majority. A majority of Americans - and a majority of Arkansans! - agree with us. But your state legislature isn't voting that way. When I ran a bill to just carve out fatal fetal anomaly from our abortion ban, state legislators voted it down. Against what the majority of their constituents want.
It's clear that help isn't coming from the state government. And it isn't coming from the federal government either. But here's the good news - it CAN come from you! You have the opportunity to sign the petition to get the Arkansas Abortion Amendment on the ballot and let the people vote directly.
There is a petition-signing opportunity TOMORROW (Saturday 3/23) in Fayetteville at St. Paul's Episcopal Church from 10am-4pm. You won't even have to get out of your car, just drive through and make your voice heard!
