This week, the Minnesota House approved a technical fix to the Net Operating Loss (NOL) provision in the state?s tax code, which would lead to tax relief for numerous small businesses.

?

Drafting errors to a new taxes law made by the majority party last year necessitated this change. Without action, impacted business owners would be paying higher taxes on this year?s returns. ?

?

I?m pleased we were able to finally move this bill forward, as it?s important for those employers who are still struggling to recover from forced COVID shutdowns and other mandates. The bill now heads to the Minnesota Senate for its approval.

?

*LEVEL II SEX OFFENDER NOTIFICATION BILL GAINS TRACTION*

In a previous update, I wrote about my legislation that would authorize local law enforcement to tell certain public officials where a Level II sex offender lives.

?

Unlike a Level III sex offender, those classified as Level II ? labeled as having a moderate risk of recidivism - do not receive a community notification of their residence, nor is their status shared with others besides law enforcement. There are certain professions ? such as assessors, property inspectors, and code enforcers ? where if employees unknowingly visited homes where a Level II sex offender was living, their personal safety could be compromised. Allowing law enforcement to disclose this information with these specific government officials removes a potential unexpected risk that could occur while they?re visiting the property.

The proposal made headway this week, as I learned the chair of the House public safety committee plans to include it in a comprehensive public safety plan that will be unveiled in the coming days.

*LOCAL VISITORS*

St. Cloud Day at the Capitol took place on Tuesday, and it was good to see so many make the trip to St. Paul!
