Missouri
Assistant Teaching Professor and Community Health Nurse
I currently teach at the University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing where I teach our community health nursing course. As a part of this class, we equip all of our students with the STOP THE BLEED® curriculum so if they so chose, they can go on to be STOP THE BLEED® instructors when they graduate. They also do a great job of promoting STOP THE BLEED® events on campus and throughout the community. Additionally, I volunteer with a grass roots community organized serving the unhoused/homeless population in Columbia, MO. I lead STOP THE BLEED® trainings for volunteers of this organization and members of the unhoused community so they are better prepared to help their friends on the streets. I became an instructor because as an ER nurse I continued to see preventable negative outcomes related to hemorrhage and I think this is a wonderful way to blend ER and community based nursing!
Training is at the heart of the STOP THE BLEED® campaign and STOP THE BLEED® Instructors are the ones that make the heart beat! The Instructor Spotlight shines a bright light on individuals engaging their communities about STOP THE BLEED®.

I am passionate about STOP THE BLEED® because I believe it is essential for everyone to know how to prevent a person or persons from bleeding out. For example, I work in a school who, thankfully, did a STOP THE BLEED® training last year. I found it to be very informative on not only learning how to apply a tourniquet and pack a wound, but also the importance of where to place a tourniquet and how to properly use one. I also believe it is essential for every classroom to have a tourniquet or STOP THE BLEED® kit on hand in the classroom if it became necessary.
