John,

I want to check on how you are doing and make sure you are okay. I know we are living through uncertain times, and everyone is worried about their health, their families, and their jobs.

I also want you to know I have been working hard in Congress to pass bipartisan solutions to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to alleviate some of the hardships it has caused.

Congress has already passed an $8.3 billion emergency bill to fund vaccine research and support state and local agencies, as well as a second relief package to put families first – it included paid leave, expanded food assistance, extended unemployment insurance, and free coverage for COVID-19 testing.

The third package, the CARES Act, passed just last week and provides direct cash payments to Americans struggling with the economic repercussions of COVID-19, food security, and much more.

The initial versions of this bill out of the Republican-held Senate put corporations first, not workers and families. But my colleagues and I in the House pushed for legislation that puts the health, wages, and well-being of America’s workers first. We will always put American families first.

During times like this, it is important to stay informed. You can visit the CDC’s website for the latest coronavirus news and all that you need to know.

We each have a duty to act responsibly, for the good of everyone. Here are the most important precautions to take:

  • Practice social distancing and stay at home as much as possible. The state of Connecticut has issued a “stay at home” order for all nonessential businesses.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and avoid touching your face.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick and stay home if you are sick.

As things are changing quickly, please see the Connecticut Department of Health’s COVID-19 website for the latest. The State of Connecticut has also launched an info line to answer your questions related to coronavirus: Call 2-1-1 with any concerns.

Stay safe, look out for each other, and thank you for all you do.
