John—

Ramadan began earlier this month and families are not able to observe like usual. Instead, this Ramadan, Palestinian families are enduring bombardment and facing starvation. It was announced this week that famine in Gaza is imminent.

You can help, John: all donations during Ramadan are being DOUBLED at this urgent hour of need. Rush an emergency gift and help the International Rescue Committee (IRC) provide lifesaving medical care, cash essential and other essential aid to children and families in Gaza and other crisis areas.

The IRC has been working with partners to deliver food and is ready to scale up its nutrition, health, and water and sanitation support as soon as a ceasefire is in place. We're also partnering with Anera, a prominent organization with decades of experience in Palestine, to address the psychological well-being of war-affected children in Gaza. Our teams are implementing therapeutic activities including play, art therapy and more.

The physical tolls of starvation are horrifying on their own. But being starved and living through war is traumatic, and the mental health impacts can’t be ignored, either. Arvind Das, IRC’s Gaza field director said, "The mental health crisis in Gaza is reaching alarming levels, with children taking the brunt of the conflict's psychological toll.”

“I recently met a little girl, holding a broken doll beside a destroyed house. Crying, she asked me, ‘Why did they have to bomb my doll?’ I wish I had an answer.”
— Arvind Das, IRC Gaza Field Director

Suffering from starvation impacts the whole person, taking a physical and mental toll, particularly on those most vulnerable, like children.
