A STICKY SITUATION: This week on BRAND NEWS, eliminating tax on your favorite local jams, jellies, and more.??

*WATCH BRAND NEWS* [ [link removed] ]

This week, I presented HF 4486 [ [link removed] ] in the House Taxes committee. The goal of this bill is to make our tax system simpler and more fair for very small businesses, often called microbusinesses, like the folks at your local farmer?s market who handmake and sell your favorite jam. Currently, Minnesotans who sell certain homemade food products are exempt from having to obtain a food handler license to sell. When these cottage food producers sell at farmers markets or directly to consumers, currently, they have to deal with a complicated and confusing structure [ [link removed] ] to determine what food is taxable and what is not, and are often required to collect and pay tax on items that are tax-free at larger retailers like grocery stores.

This bill would exempt these small sellers from sales tax, so our friends and neighbors can continue to bring us delicious homemade jams, jellies, bread, and more to our local farmer?s market, and have an easier time doing so.?

Lady Saints Go All the Way to the Top

I want to send a huge congratulations to the Saint Peter Saints girl?s basketball team, who won the 3A consolation final over Rock Ridge last Friday! I want to especially congratulate the graduating seniors for finishing strong on such an incredible high note. You?ve made Saint Peter incredibly proud, and we can?t wait to see what you?ll do next.?

Advancing the Minnesota Building Families Act

My bill to require insurance coverage for fertility treatments, known as the Minnesota Building Families Act, is continuing to make progress in the House. I want to thank Andy Wilke from Greater Mankato Growth, and his daughter, Ellie, who was born thanks to IVF treatment, for testifying about how life-changing this legislation will be for many Minnesotans.??

ELLIE

There are so many Minnesotans who want nothing more than to start or build their families, but are having trouble with fertility. In the United States, infertility is about as common as diabetes. It?s not a rare disorder affecting a small number of people ? it's a real and present struggle for someone you know. We?re working hard to send the Minnesota Building Families Act across the finish line.??
